I am frantically packing and trying not to over-pack (which I am always guilty of) because tomorrow morning bright and early I am off to Melbourne. For those who don't know much about Australia... Melbourne= fashion/shopping capital of the country.
So yes, you could say I am a little excited. Even though I will be up before the sun and may suffer hypothermia while there, I can't wait to be in a place where people love fashion as much as I do, and of course I can't wait to shop and dine for 6 days straight . Yay.
So happy week and weekend all. My poor blog will be neglected, but hey, drop in and give her some love while I'm away.
Mary-Kate Olsen's ring collection never ceases to amaze me. I'm always find myself squinting at photos of her trying to get a slightly better look at her finger candy.
So I thought I'd a post little chunk of my ring collection. My newest/favourite ones live in this box that my Nana, bless her soul, gave me and the others get dumped in the my other zillion accessories.
Op Shop, Vogue Australia, Hot Chocolate, Matching Scarves, Black Lace, Ellen, Nachos, Vintage Rosary Beads and Travel Craving. That was what today was about. In actual fact I did a whole lot of nothing and a little bit of somethings. I have tuesday and wednesday off from everything this week. Like a little island of freedom in a sea of weekdays.
Usually at the start of winter I try to ignore the fact that the coldness is creeping up, and dress like I do in summer only adding a jacket, stockings or a scarf etc (which is probably why I have the sniffles big time today) so when the rain stopped, the sun came out and the mercury rose enough for me to banish the prospect of winter from my mind for a day I was rather happy (even though the sun was shining it didn't help the rain-soaked grass into which my heels were squishing- see image 2).
I wore my favourite tsubi shorts, vintage givenchy blouse, vintage chanel bag, vintage silver crucifix , sportsgirl studded enamel and pandora bracelets and new steve madden platform slingbacks. Very similar cheaper ones can be found here.
And I am very excited about this Kayser lace bustier corset i bought today. I got it from a store probably equivalent to America's Wal Mart, so it didn't exactly break the bank, but i am very excited to play around with it. I also found some amazing vintage rosary beads and a lace tee with shoulder pads.
A couple of my many many beloved & lusted after collections from 08 and 09. I want it all. I think the Ann Demeulemeester is just great and so wearable. Oh and i know the Anna Molinari collection is rather old but I think it's flawless & I re-fell in love (not that I ever stopped) with the intricate little nude-hued dresses when i came across the photos again. To me, it blends design qualities seen in showstopping editorial couture into fun wearable designs.
OK so being on university holidays isn't so good for my shopping addiction I have found. Yesterday I was bored so I went for a stroll around the mall. I ended up embarking on a mini shopping binge. I got...
Studded cuff- Diva. Black pendant and black bead necklaces- Tempt. Silver necklace and bracelet- vintage.
Silk dress- Lily (This dress is so much better in real life, I can totally imagine Ashley Olsen wearing a floor length version to a red carpet event)
Suede ankle boots- Barkins
Lace detailed basic black dress- Barkins
White coat- Valleygirl (This coat looks slightly lab coat-esque because of it's bright white colour but I just loved the adorable short bell sleeves and buttons. And it's made of the thinnest fabric ever and would offer no warmth whatsoever, but hey, it's cute)
Cardigan- Cotton On. (I still don't know why i bought this, I think cause it reminded me of something Ralph Lauren would make intended for some kind of sailing or polo excursion... It just attracted me)
Okay so I'm reading Famous, a weekly Australian celebrity gossip magazine (you know the type), when i saw two photos of Paris Hilton, in two separate sections of the magazine, where she was dressed in entirely in one colour. The magazine then went on to state that she is a style icon and a very fashion forward 'celebutante'.
Don't get me wrong, this is only a personal opinion, but i believe Paris puts together boring and safe outfits and cares more about if everything matches and is the perfect colour than a sense of style. I do not believe that just because someone is famous and in the spotlight and happens to be photographed in many outfits that they are fashion forward or a style icon. I know alot of people (including lil old me) that, they given access to that kind of wealth and style resources, could do wonderful things with fashion.
Most of us would wear fushia platforms or a cobalt blue clutch to give some 'pop' to an outfit not drape our whole bodies in that colour. Not to impune Paris' style but I am definitely not a fan of the matchy matchy bland outfits she is so often seen in. And I am not putting her down in any way I just do not personally believe she is a style icon. I don't want this to be misinterpreted, this is just my opinion. So give me yours and let me know what you think on the issue...
Super super busy/amazing weekend. Spent Thursday and Friday organizing/decorating/making slideshows and music playlists for my 21st partay on Friday night. Which was, I must say, the best night ever. Everything was perfect. Best people, great venue, amazing cake and a little too much champagne.
This is me on Thursday, running around town, testing dvds and ipods among many things. Oh and aren't the tan loafers just the cutest things ever? And so comfortable.
Military Blazer- vintage. Tee- Crossroads. Jeans- Sportsgirl. Loafers- Rubi.
(And i don't know why the date is wrong, says posted on Thurs June 11th, pretty sure today is Sunday June 14th Hmmm)
Today is my 21st birthday (yay), it's a little chilly, but I am in an amazing mood. I have coffee & decoration hunting with a friend this morning, lunch and manicure & pedicure with my sister, then family dinner tonight. And of course abit of shopping squished in there. I plan to dress in the fabulous heels I bought on the weekend and my brand new stella mcartney-esque black blazer and have a blissful day.
On Friday I travelled north to the big city (Brisbane), on a mission to find a dress for my partay this weekend. The mission didn't prove as successful as I'd hoped (everything either in the wrong size, or color or just plain ugly), but i did find a Tokito satin high waist skirt that, worn over a black bustier, looks fabulous, and actually looks like a dress.
Oversized singlet- sportsgirl Blazer- cotton on Skirt- forever new Heels- Guess
Just about to leave for my sushi dinner date with my lover, and this is what I'm wearing. Yes it's a bathroom mirror shot... my parents and brother have abandoned me and gone holidaying interstate (and taken the good camera) so I had no one around to take shots for me so I apologize.
I feel like I don't even have time to scratch my bum right now, as the saying goes, all because of fast approaching uni holidays, which means assessment time. But as we speak I am preparing to go and do presentations and handing in and last minute stressing, and by the end of the day I will be freeeee.
Oh and i really really want those patent beige platforms, and am imaging all the things i could do with that fuchsia one piece.
